Elementary Science Bowl

On July 20th, 2020, STEAM for All held the first ever virtual Super STEAM Saturday Elementary Science Bowl held via Zoom. Nearly 100 students ranging from grades 4 to 6, participating in teams for three to four, answering questions as quickly as possible by “buzzing” in. Participants competed in two separate rounds, each consisting of a lightning round and a toss-up round. In the lightning round, teams have one minute to answer as many questions as they could, discussing and conferring as needed. Afterwards, students participated in a toss-up round, where students would “buzz” in through the chat to answer questions as they found answers. Questions included the subjects of physical science, life science, earth and space science, general science, and math!

The Elementary Science Bowl was created to allow participants to learn about more advanced topics in science and math that may be uncommon in a school setting. Students were able to learn numerous topics in physics, biology, meteorology, and more while participating in a fun competition, meeting and working with new people! With exposure to new topics and concepts, 20 STEAM for All volunteers inspired students to look into differing topics in science more in depth and explore the world of STEAM at a young age! We hope that all the students who participated learned something new and had some fun, and we hope to see you all at our future Summer STEAM Saturdays!
